Thyme has been around for thousands of years. It has a vast array of health benefits, some dating back to the Roman times when people used it to prevent poisoning. Nowadays, it’s used mainly as a culinary herb, however thyme has so many additional uses!
- Helps Fight Sore Throats
Thyme oil is one of the strongest, natural antimicrobials, which aid in killing those nasty germs! You can either add some oil into your food or drink thyme tea. - Helps Prevent and Fight Cystitis
For me, this is the most useful aspect of thyme! It contains D-mannose which stops the bacteria from attaching to the wall of bladder, allowing you to flush it out. Being unlucky in having had many bladder infections throughout the years, I will make sure to drink thyme tea everyday. - Improves Skin Health
Given that thyme has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, thyme oil can protect your skin from related infections. It works as a home remedy for acne. - Boosts the Immune System
Thyme is packed with vitamin C, therefore consuming it can give your immune system a kick start. - Helps With Digestion
Thyme is known to prevent the increase of harmful gases in the stomach, making digestion a lot easier and less painful.
These are just a few benefits that thyme can bring to your life. Below is a recipe for thyme tea. And it’s so easy!
Thyme Tea
What you’ll need:
- a few sprigs of thyme
- (optional) honey
Boil some water, pour into mug and add thyme. Let it seep for about 10-15mins, then pick the thyme out. If you like your tea sweeter, add a bit of honey. This tea can be consumed hot or cold. Enjoy!
