This fascinating post is by 15yr old George, telling his first-hand experience of experimenting with specific essential oils to help enhance his studying for mock GCSE’s. Brilliantly written up by his sister Stella.
“I did a little research for studying and the brain, as I need all the help I can get!
Scents and smells trigger memories. So I experimented with a scent per subject during my revision, homework and with a tutor at home sometimes.
My room diffuser pumps away with Lavender for History, as it reminds me of old people. Dad comes up and interrupts me with a remark, ‘smells nice up here’ he doesn’t get it…
Now the mocks have started, so I use the rollerball filled with oil and a few drops of each scent, mine have the letter ‘E’ for English rather than the contents of eucalyptus oil. There’s no fancy names or labels, just a reference, I like to keep it simple.
I dab my wrist to sniff during the exam and hope it triggers a memory, I pray it works. Anyway I like the smells and maybe it helps keep me calm?!”
