5 Uplifting & Detoxing Essential Oils to Support you and your Liver for Spring…

Spring, season of revival, renewal, fast change, expansive & creative energy!
Using the principles of Wood – element of spring to choose 5 essential oils – that by their nature will help you harness the energy of this season…

So what is the Wood Elemental season?!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) The Element of Wood is connected to Spring – the season for expansion & creative energy, this warm, bright, upward yang energy starting to rise in nature and in us!

Think of the rising sap in the trees, new shoots, breaking into blossom, this season we leave behind the cool, downward Yin energies of winter.

How do you nourish your Wood Element?

If you want to nourish this element, get out into nature, or bring in plants and essential oils (plant essences) into your home.
Wood is the energy that calls seeds to germinate and to push through soil up into the light. The upward yang warm energy, born out of the decomposition and downward cool yin energy of winter.

The Wood Element
Upward yang motion – think of sap rising up into the trees to nourish new growth of shoots, leaves branches.
Direction: East
Colour: Green
Taste: Sour
Organs: Liver, Gall Bladder & Eyes
System: The nervous system
Body parts: Tendons and ligaments – flexibility and movement
Emotions: Frustration anger envy agitation, envy. In service – generous, creative, expansion, kindness, compassion.

Spring offers us renewed rising yang energy, warmer lighter brighter days, fresh new beginnings, new projects, fast growth and blossoming plants.

However its easy to speed up too quickly after slow hibernation of winter.
be gentle and do not expect too much of yourself at this time and you may cause internal yang energy to bubble up too fast. This can bring up feelings of irritation, frustration, headaches, showing you that stress has risen too quickly and you find yourself suddenly depleted and fatigued.

If this happens you can use aromatherapy to help you with this season of change.

Aromatherapy is a lovely natural and effective way to invite more strength into your immune system, to help balance to your energy and emotions. Aromatherapy actually lowers excessive stress, reduces feelings of urgency, helps you move forward gently while creating a solid foundation for your wellbeing.

Spring (Wood) is the season of new growth, abundance and regeneration (just like the liver can regenerate so can we this season!) It is a time of germination, new beginnings, vision, hope, creativity, planning, ideation, detoxification, decluttering, time to elevate above previous patterns and problems.

All this sudden yang energy can raise stress and tensions and your body reallocates energy to survival, away from healing. So you can harness the healing powers of essential oils, to prevent overburdening stress, meaning you have enough energy to take on your problems in creative ways.

Wood element is connected to our organs of detoxification and storage of blood the Liver and Gall Bladder.

The liver is considered to be the ‘commanding master’ of your body. It’s responsible for receiving nutrients, storing and regulating blood, responsible for blood cleansing and detoxification of used hormones, regulating histamine levels and smoothing the flow of Qi energy.

The liver prefers to be cooler and be in a state of flow, this has influenced my choice of essential oils to have a cooling action and to help with flow of blood, lymph and emotions

Your ethereal soul is considered to live in the liver and is thought to leave the body at night to travel when you dream.

The liver connects the individual mind to the universal mind, when our liver is working well we are able to harness our imagination, to have vision for the future and even better actual vision (sight and eye health)

Liver is connected to our personal power, our sense of self, who you are in the world.

  • The liver is connected to the Solar Plexus Chakra
  • The Solar Plexus Chakra is located just above the tummy button, is connected with personal power, confidence, and vitality.
  • A blockage or imbalance in the liver chakra can lead to various physical and emotional ailments, headaches, digestive issues, low self-worth, esteem issues, and anxiety.
  • The Solar Plexus Chakra is responsible for regulating the stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and small intestine.

Balanced solar plexus chakra = purpose, motivation for pursuing your goals

Imbalanced or blocked solar plexus chakra = Insecurity, low self-esteem, and indecisiveness

Spring Wood Element Exercise:

Spring season makes it easy to be eager to get going, to move forward and desire change. Ideas and plans that have laid dormant in you can now be germinated!

Have your essential oil in a diffuser or a few drops on a tissue next to you so you are immersed in its scent and energetics.

Now sit comfortably, gently breathe in the aroma of your oil through your nose, observe how it make you feel?

Let you body soften and breathing slow and deepen and connect to your belly.

Bring your observation to your thoughts.
What quality do they have, what tone?

Pay close attention to any habitual negative ones that you are broadcasting out – might these actually be holding you back?

Tune into quieter, positive ones that deserve attention, note down which ones you want to bring to fruition.

Write them out by hand on paper, place this somewhere you can look at them each day for a week, see what manifests...
